Linda A. Gary, LMFT

I am a marriage and family therapist with a background that includes teaching, real estate investments and management in addition to 17 years as a psychotherapist. I have raised three children and am a grandmother to seven.  One of the most important relationship lessons I have learned along the way is the gift of self-compassion. Self-compassion, unlike self-esteem, can connest us deeply to one another.  It is not competitive and it doesn't require more stuff or status symbols.  It frees us up to be vulnerable and to learn from our mistakes. Best of all it increases are abiliity to truly and deeply feel compassion for others.

As a therapist,I blend what I have learned about object relations, cognitive behavior therapy, internal family systems, Buddhist meditation and minfulness practices, recent brain research, and my own relationship experieces into the work I do with clients. I became a widow after more than 20 years of marriage to a man and have been in a relationship with a woman for more than 20 years. I see life as a beautiful opportunity to keep growing up all the way from birth to death.  Only human beings have the conscious ability to improve the quality and happiness of our lives.  Why on earth would we not want to take advantage of such an almost too good to be true gift!
