In a safe place, one can experience feelings, thoughts, memories and desires. These all impact the way people relate to others. Awareness of thoughts and behaviours that have led to suffering is an essential step toward the resolution of problems. I view problems in the context of the whole person and their environment, and help find meaning no matter how one expresses their story.
I encourage people to talk about feelings that come up about therapy. This offers a rich source of understanding and an opportunity to better grasp relationship patterns and for relating in a new way.
We function, yet have parts that did not have a chance to grow. It may be hard to bounce back from rejection and to stay in touch with our feelings and needs. We function yet may feel stuck, depressed, angry, afraid, childlike, or like we are going through the motions.
Therapy can lead to less suffering and more satisfying relationships.

“The point of marriage is not to create a quick commonality by tearing down all boundaries; on the contrary, a good marriage is one in which each partner appoints the other to be the guardian of his solitude, and thus they show each other the greatest possible trust. A merging of two people is an impossibility, and where it seems to exist, it is a hemming-in, a mutual consent that robs one party or both parties of their fullest freedom and development. But once the realization is accepted that even between the closest people infinite distances exist, a marvelous living side-by-side can grow up for them, if they succeed in loving the expanse between them, which gives them the possibility of always seeing each other as a whole and before an immense sky.”
- Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
