Talk only therapy deprives the individual of the tremendous gifts and wisdom our body—emotions—nervous system communicate to us through a language of their own. When overwhelmed, flooded, in shock, fearful or traumatized, we loose our ability to remain resilient and to make choices that are life affirming and best serve us, and those around us.

Now that our social construct is honoring—more than ever before—the dignity and the legal rights of our LGBTQ community, many people find themselves scarred by the homophobia of their earlier years. Many uninformed families and rigid religious institutions have left, and unfortunately so, keep on leaving profound wounds on those who's sexual and gender expression differs from "the norm"—whatever that means nowadays. In order to survive the stigmas and repression they experienced, many people began using coping mechanisms that were, unfortunately so, reinforcing the shame and guilt they experienced in early years. Some of these coping behaviors—which were initially intended to manage anxiety, depression, self-worth, the need to belong, to feel alive, etc.,—left some people ill equipped to lead the lives they dreamed of; the lives that express who they truly are at their core. The aspects of our lives where guilt and shame hide cannot–fully–thrive.

Thankfully, the painful and often traumatic experiences of our past do not have to determine our future. The great social advances we are a part of are also paired with a greater understanding of how our brains work, and how traumas and deficiencies (we all have some) can be processed and integrated. True empowerment requires that we honor our strengths, gifts and talents; as well as our vulnerabilities, fears and anxieties. True empowerment demands that we integrate the complexity of who we are, while embracing the ever increasing complexity of our world. I am committed in supporting you to find and express your true empowered life!

My psychotherapeutic work is informed by an integral approach. This means that I focus on the whole you. I am certified in EMDR and in the Trauma Resilient Model (trauma reprocessing). I also teach and use Voice Dialogue. I am in my 2nd year of training as a PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) couple therapist. I support couples to create a secure functioning relationship for themselves, and to steer away from relational patterns that harm their relationship. I am passionate about attachment theory (our innate need to bond with others); biology (how our nervous system reacts, on a moment-to-moment basis, to assess for safety and threat); and neuroscience (the study of the human brain and mind).

If any of the above speaks to you, I invite you to visit my website: www.cnathanbergeron.com and my Yelp page

Most Sincerely,
